Domestic Gubbins — Anab Jain and Alex Taylor, Microsoft Research
“The Domestic Gubbins are a series of four fictional objects, designed as video probes, in order to enter in conversations with people around their everyday ideas of intelligence.” It is a project by Anab Jain and Alex Taylor of Microsoft Research, Cambridge. Despite the fact that none of the objects from this project were functional, the video prototypes allowed the team to have meaningful conversations with people about such hypothetical products.
See Adam Little’s Johnny Holland article, “Communicating UX Through Video: 4. Probing & Research” for more examples of using video as a tool for research, inspiration, and cultural probing.
